Hyperloop One Routes 10 Possible Paths; Is One Near You?

The Texas route is one of 10 routes that the company is considering, according to a Thursday news release. In January, the Los Angeles-based Hyperloop One company (Musk isn't affiliated) announced 35 semifinalists for its Global Challenge, an open call for proposals to implement the futuristic technology.

Canada's HyperCan team represents the route, and will now compete with teams across the United States, Mexico, the United Kingdom and India to prove the Toronto-Montreal corridor is the most commercially viable choice. So it may very well be the case that in the near future with the legislation, terrain, and Hyperloop in Colorado, people will be able to be both fast and high.

"The excitement around Hyperloop is in its potential to reimagine transportation by eliminating the barriers of distance and time", he stated.

Hyperloop One has awarded 10 winners of the Hyperloop One Global Challenge out of hundreds of applicants, identifying the strongest new Hyperloop routes from around the world. The aim is to merge the main urban centres of northern England with the central belt of Scotland, thereby creating a "pan-Northern city region" able to hold its own against London and the southeast.

Orlando is now a finalist for billionaire Elon Musk's Hyperloop One project, which is essentially a vacuum tube that would allow you to travel at 750 mph and arrive in Miami in about 26 minutes. It would also link Cheyenne, Wyoming, in the north to Pueblo, Colorado in the south.

MORPC Executive Director William Murdock said: "We are excited to work closely with Hyperloop One to explore this project's development and impact on Central Ohio and the Midwest". The route would be 360 miles and serve up to 4.8 million people, Ars Technica reported.

Pods would run through tubes, much like an above-ground subway system, and use magnetic levitation to glide at speeds faster than airlines due to extremely low aerodynamic drag inside the tube.

"The winning teams of the Hyperloop One Global Challenge represent the best innovation and creativity from government agencies, engineering firms, academics, infrastructure experts and more", said Josh Giegel, co-founder and president of engineering at Hyperloop One.

"We had tremendous interest in this competition, and these 10 teams each had their unique strengths in showcasing how they will alleviate serious transportation issues in their regions", Hyperloop One CEO Rob Lloyd said.
