Donald Trump says Dreamers have 'nothing to worry about' after axing DACA

"For all of those (DACA) that are concerned about your status during the 6 month period, you have nothing to worry about - No action!", Mr Trump tweeted. "That is an abandonment of humanity, and abandonment of talented and hopeful young people who are as American as you and I". If Congress fails to decide yet again, then Mr Trump may find himself in the same position as his predecessor, reintroducing something like DACA by executive action.

Gonzalez said DACA recipients don't' have green cards, so if they want to become citizens, they need a sponsor.

Ironically, the main argument for that line of legal challenge comes from the former biggest threat to DACA: Texas District Judge Andrew Hanen.

Citing Trump's numerous statements disparaging Mexicans as "criminals, thugs, and 'bad hombres, ' " Ferguson said Trump has revealed "a racial animus" towards Mexicans: "Ask yourself one question: If the overwhelming majority were Caucasians, does anybody really think he (President Trump) would have taken the action he took?"

"The President spoke to Senators McConnell and Schumer as well as Speaker Ryan and Minority Leader Pelosi this morning". But the shape of any immigration legislation is uncertain, with lawmakers failing repeatedly in recent years to overhaul the country's immigration policies. Trump did not indicate why he was optimistic the two parties would collaborate on immigration before a midterm election year, except to say he heard reassurances from members of Congress.

Perhaps Trump's own history of chafing at legal objections to his executive orders makes Cardinal Joseph W. Tobin of Newark, New Jersey, skeptical that he's rescinding DACA out of some principled concern for law and proper procedure.

There are 800,000 people eligible for DACA.

The program deferred deportation for undocumented immigrants who were brought to the United States as minors and allows them to pursue work permits. The trust that has been violated with this decision, even across different presidencies, will not be forgotten quickly among immigrant communities, their families, and their allies. We have to compare our stated values to our actions. Apple famously went to war against the Obama Justice Department after the FBI sought to force Apple to develop software to enable the government to peer into the cell phone of one of the shooters in the 2015 San Bernardino terror attack. It amounts to saying that the immigration laws constrain his prosecutorial discretion to withhold deportation, even as the administration says that the law at issue in the Travel Ban case maximizes his discretion. Before that, his family had experienced a good life and had what they needed.

This confounding and self-defeating tweet illustrates at once how Trump defies all norms.

Correcting that ought to be about as hard politically as declaring a new public holiday.

Gingrich Productions is a performance and production company featuring the work of Newt Gingrich and Callista Gingrich.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced the Trump administration would end DACA, but give Congress six months to come up with a legislative solution, The Hill noted.

On Wednesday, Trump said he is confident Congress will act on the issue.

Whether Obama figured a like-minded Democrat would succeed him, or that the politics of peeling back DACA by a Republican would be too prohibitive is irrelevant. The idea for it arose near the end of the Civil War, and the discussions around its creation included a desire to recognize both the freedom gained through the Revolutionary War, and those later won in the Civil War. So I need to deal with the problem at hand. But that's a very limited picture of the reality. What rational person would roll the dice on responding to a Census form under the current administration?

Trump's DACA decision sparked a rally in Wichita, where immigration advocates also called on Congress to act. "I love this country".
