Congressman Takes First Formal Step To Impeach Trump

"I am introducing Articles of Impeachment to begin a long process to protect our country from abuse of power, obstruction of justice, and impulsive, ignorant incompetence", Sherman wrote.

According to the article of impeachment filed by Sherman, Trump has "prevented, obstructed and impeded the administration of justice during a federal investigation".

Sherman also pointed to Comey's firing amid the ongoing FBI probe into alleged Russian hacking in last year's election and possible collusion by Trump presidential campaign officials. His firing of former FBI Director James Comey was one of the most controversial decisions and considered to be an #Obstruction Of Justice.

"Recent disclosures by Donald Trump Jr. indicate that Trump's campaign was eager to receive assistance from Russia", Sherman explained in a media release.

To introduce a bill or motion in Congress, a second member needs to sign on in support of it. This is called a "cosponsor".

The US Constitution allows for a president to be impeached if articles alleging "treason, bribery high crimes and misdemeanours" to the House Judiciary Committee pass a simple majority vote.

Brad Sherman and Al Green have lodged the article in an attempt to oust Mr Trump from The White House.

The effort has little chance of success in the Republican-led House. On Tuesday Donald Trump, Jr. released emails demonstrating that when a Russian operative offered up dirt on foe Hillary Clinton, he stated, "I love it".

While the Trump impeachment odds are low, that hasn't stopped people from betting against the President. If two-thirds of senators find the president guilty, he is removed and the vice president succeeds him.

Stephanopoulos pointed out that Starr first got to work on his investigation "before (intern) Monica Lewinsky came into the White House". The article is not expected to gain any traction in the House.

Brad Sherman, a California Democrat is pushing for Donald Trump impeachment. Richard Nixon, in 1974, has preferred to resign to avoid dismissal, some by the Congress because of the scandal of Watergate.

What are the President Trump impeachment odds? "It's not about Republicans, it's about the republic".

But for them to do so, there has to be evidence of misconduct.

Amid mounting allegations of Russian involvement with the Trump campaign, the Los Angeles-area politician described the nation's position as "dangerous" and said in a statement: "The evidence we have is sufficient to move forward now".
